DIGITAL RIVER PARTNERS WITH CORBIS®
Digital River Partners with Leading Digital
Image Provider to Bring Digital Picture Packs to Online Consumers
MINNEAPOLIS, March 15, 1999 -- Digital River (Nasdaq: DRIV), the leader in electronic software delivery (ESD), announced today a marketing agreement with Corbis, the Place for Pictures on the Internet, to provide Digital Picture Packs to consumers for personal use. Under the agreement, Digital River will distribute the most popular and best selling digital images from the world-renowned Corbis Collection, such as paintings by Vincent Van Gogh and Renoir, the World War II-era "We Can Do It!" poster and NASA images of space shuttle launches. This agreement marks the first point of distribution for Corbis outside of its online Corbis Store, allowing online consumers to access Digital Picture Packs through Digital River's extensive network of more than 1,000 online retail partners.
"Digital Picture Packs allow consumers to use images for personal non-commercial use in a convenient and legal way," said David Rheins, vice president of Corbis Productions. "With Digital River's immense online software distribution network, this partnership will enable more consumers to quickly and easily create their own Web sites, create personal greeting cards and develop screen savers. By expanding our channel, we can now capitalize on the substantial market for selling digital imagery usage to consumers through the Internet."
"Corbis offers an excellent selection of popular digital content that enhances our already robust inventory of product," said Joel Ronning, Digital River CEO. "The addition of Corbis' products to Digital River's online database significantly increases the number of images that are available to people shopping on the Web, making it quick and easy to find and purchase a particular image online through any of Digital River's online retailers."
Under the agreement, Digital River will also provide online marketing and merchandising support for Corbis, enhancing the visibility of Corbis' Digital Picture Packs among end-users through the online retail channel. Additionally, Digital River will distribute Corbis' products through its network of leading online retailers, including CompUSA, Cyberian Outpost, Download Warehouse and Multiple Zones. This value-added service enables Corbis to spend more time on sales and marketing, while Digital River manages the online marketing initiatives.
