The Customer

As a global leader in mobile innovation and design, HTC is credited with creating the first Android smartphone, Microsoft-powered smartphone and the world’s first touchscreen smartphones.

The Challenge

In the fall of 2014, HTC announced their newest emerging device, the RE Camera, and needed a solution to launch this highly anticipated product online in just a few short months.

The Solution

When the cost and time of building their ecommerce solution in house proved to be too high of an investment, HTC looked to Digital River to provide all of the end-to-end ecommerce solutions they needed.

“Putting all of the accounting, tax, and fraud monitoring capabilities and infrastructure in place would have been a lot of incremental work — and costly. The fact that Digital River did all of that for us made it possible for me to get up and running quickly, and made it a lot easier for the rest of my organization.”

– Ed Kuhner, VP of Customer Experience HTC Americas

The Story

In the competitive market of high-end electronics, speed-to-market is imperative and a best-in-class ecommerce experience is essential. HTC faced the challenge of finding a partner to help them launch their highly anticipated RE Camera online in just a few short months. Ed Kuhner, VP of Customer Experience, HTC Americas, considered building their ecommerce solution in-house, however the cost and time to develop the back-end components proved to be too significant of an investment in time and capital for the short window needed to launch.

Of all the outside partners that HTC considered, Digital River was the only one able to provide a solution that included fraud management, tax collection and filing, Merchant of Record capabilities and payment processing from a single point of contact.

Digital River’s Global Commerce Services proved to be the turnkey, agile, SaaS-based solution HTC needed for quick and easy development. The services offered the necessary commerce infrastructure for legal and fraud protections. Digital River’s Professional Services group delivered integration expertise and expert technical consulting to implement the right comprehensive system architecture solution and the Commerce Operations team managed all merchandising and launch elements to ensure a flawless product launch.

In just six weeks, Digital River’s Professional Services, Commerce Operations, and Account Management teams worked closely with HTC and successfully delivered a fully integrated, direct-to-cart, HTC branded ecommerce store. In addition to providing ongoing guidance around marketing promotions and performance insights, Digital River monitors and blocks fraudulent payment activity before processing orders, collects and remits sales tax, and ensures compliance with global commerce laws.
