Chief Executive Officer
David Dobson joined Digital River in February 2013, as the company’s Chief Executive Officer. David leads Digital River in its mission to help companies find new and better ways of successfully building and growing profitable online businesses on a global basis. Today, Digital River’s ecommerce technologies and international experts are working behind the scenes to support thousands of companies around the world, including respected industry leaders such as Microsoft, Adobe, Kaspersky, Lenovo, Logitech, Samsung and Ubisoft. David’s leadership is integral to Digital River’s plan to accelerate growth, drive quality and customer satisfaction, and evolve its ecommerce solution to meet the needs of today’s highly connected buyers.
David joins Digital River from CA Technologies where he was executive vice president and group executive for the company’s Global Lines of Business. David was responsible for leading CA’s broad portfolio of products and solutions for mainframe, distributed and cloud computing environments. His team played a key role in repositioning CA as a market leader in cloud enablement solutions, as well as driving increased revenue, market share and profitability during his tenure.
Prior to joining CA Technologies in 2010, David served as president of Pitney Bowes Management Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Pitney Bowes, Inc. Also during his tenure at Pitney Bowes, David served as executive vice president and chief strategy and innovation officer, where he was responsible for leading the development of the company’s long-term strategy and increasing the company’s focus and capacity on innovation as a source of growth.
Before coming to Pitney Bowes in 2008, David was chief executive officer of Corel Corporation, a global provider of leading software titles, including CorelDRAW®, WordPerfect® and WinZip®. During his three years at Corel, the company grew revenue 20 percent year-over-year, and increased profits by more than 30 percent each year. In 2006, he was instrumental in leading the company’s successful initial public offering.
Before joining Corel in 2005, David spent 19 years at IBM where he held a number of senior management positions, including corporate vice president, Emerging Business Opportunities, and president and general manager, IBM Printing Systems Division.
David graduated from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, with a degree in electrical engineering and management.
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Ted Cahall joined Digital River in 2013 as the company’s executive vice president and chief operating officer. To his role, Ted brings a deep resume of Internet industry experience, working with companies such as Microsoft, AOL, United Online, CNET Networks, Bank of America and AT&T Bell Labs. At Digital River, Ted leads the company’s offering strategy from design to delivery, including the global product development, engineering, QA, IT and delivery organizations. His team manages the leading multi-tenant, SaaS-based commerce infrastructure that connects companies with online consumers and business buyers across virtually every country in the world.
Ted Cahall joined Digital River from Microsoft, where he served as corporate vice president of MSN and led one of the largest online media networks in the world.
Prior to joining Microsoft in 2010, Cahall held various senior executive positions at AOL. His positions included divisional president, executive vice president and chief technology officer, as well as executive vice president and president of the platforms and products business units responsible for AOL Search, MapQuest, commerce channels, publishing, video search, email and mobile.
Before joining AOL, Cahall was an executive vice president and chief operating officer of United Online, a leading provider of consumer products and services over the Internet. At United Online, Cahall had responsibility for multiple U.S. and international social networking sites.
Prior to going to United Online, Cahall was chief technology officer at CNET Networks, where he managed the architecture, data centers, infrastructure and software development of more than 30 web properties.
In addition, Cahall spent six years at Bank of America, serving as vice president of enterprise architecture and standards, and later as the vice president of engineering for the Internet home banking division.
Cahall started his career at AT&T Bell Labs, where he developed communication device drivers and software distribution systems for an embedded version of the Unix operating system.
Chief Financial Officer
Hoke Horne is Digital River’s Chief Financial Officer, responsible for Digital River’s accounting, finance, tax, corporate development and enterprise operations activities. Hoke is charged with helping Digital River build on its successes across ecommerce, online payments and emarketing businesses as well as accelerate its expansion into new markets and geographies.
Horne’s professional background includes extensive knowledge of finance, IT, operations, cost management and pricing. He joins Digital River from Groupon, a global ecommerce marketplace that offers subscribers discounts on activities, travel, goods and services. At Groupon, he served as Vice President of Global Commercial Finance and Chief Financial Officer of North America with responsibility for steering financial operations for the company’s global business, including its marketing, technology, legal, human resources and finance activities.
Prior to Groupon, he served as Vice President of Software Finance and Pricing Strategy at Juniper Networks, and held leadership and management positions in industry-leading companies, including Microsoft Corp., McKinsey & Company and Andersen Consulting, now Accenture.
Hoke holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia and a Master of Business Administration degree in finance and accounting from the University of Chicago.
Chief Information and Risk Officer
In his role as Digital River’s chief information and risk officer, Christopher Rence leads the company’s information technology (IT) organization. With more than 20 years of IT-related experience, he brings a wealth of technical and systems expertise to the position at Digital River. As chief information officer, Christopher is charged with transforming Digital River’s global enterprise IT architecture, tools, security, quality, governance, compliance and facilities. Christopher and his international team of technology specialists oversee eight global data centers and a security strategy that positively impacts the operations of tens of thousands of ecommerce stores worldwide. Digital River’s triple redundant systems serve 60 million web pages and handle more than 300,000 orders on a daily basis.
Prior to joining Digital River, Christopher served as vice president, chief information and business transformation officer at FICO. In this role, he was responsible for global enterprise ASP operations, business applications, technical infrastructure, corporate security, operational audit and contract management. Prior to joining FICO, Christopher was a part of the partnership with Accenture. During his 12 year tenure there, he held a number of roles that included development, ERP systems, technical infrastructure and engineering, data center engineering and global solution office and center construction.
Senior Vice President and General Manager, Digital River World Payments
Hayden Reed is the senior vice president and general manager of Digital River World Payments. In this role, Hayden leads all aspects of Digital River’s global payments strategy, including strategic development, sales and marketing, product management, operations, and mergers and acquisitions. In 2014, the company processed more than $35 billion in online transactions across more than 230 countries and territories.
Hayden joined Digital River with more than 20 years of experience across financial services and transaction-related businesses, as well as a strong understanding of the global payments landscape. In addition to leading emerging payments technologies as well as international product design, definition and development, Hayden has managed strategic partnerships, key channel relationships and acquisitions.
His background includes ten years at MasterCard Worldwide, where he served most recently as the senior vice president and group head of emerging payments product for credential management. There, he led a product team responsible for the development roadmap, launch and commercialization of MasterCard’s Digital Enablement Service, which provided secure payments and a foundation for the launch of market-leading digital wallets. Additionally, he managed a team responsible for strategy, planning, pricing and corporate development for Latin America.
Prior to MasterCard Worldwide, he served in leadership positions with companies such as First Data Corporation; Electronic CommercePayments, Inc.; CheckFree Corporation, which is now part of Fiserv, Inc.; Banc One Corporation, which was acquired by JPMorgan Chase & Co.; and Ernst & Young LLP.
Senior Vice President, International Sales and Account Management
Marco Vergani joined Digital River as the general manager and vice president of EMEA in 2014. A 25-year veteran of pan-European sales operations, Marco leads the company’s global expansion strategy in the region and manages operations across Digital River Offices in the UK, Austria, England, Germany, Ireland, Russia and Sweden.
Before joining Digital River, Marco held numerous senior executive roles at IBM, including vice president of European sales for the company’s Global Process Services division. There, he optimized resources and managed expansions across the marketplace, generating more than $1 billion in sales.
Prior to leading EMEA sales for IBM’s Global Process Services business unit, Marco managed IBM’s Retail Store Solutions division in EMEA, where he built distribution channels and partnerships across the region and led high-profile, point-of-sale solutions development initiatives. His IBM career also includes other significant leadership roles in Italy and the United Kingdom.
Senior Vice President, Professional Services & Strategic Alliances
Joydeep Haldar is Digital River’s senior vice president of professional services and strategic alliances. In this role, he has end-to-end responsibility for client implementation, custom development, solution architecture and production support. Today, Digital River’s professional services support some of the world’s most notable software, consumer electronics, retail and travel and entertainment brands.
Prior to joining Digital River, Joydeep served as the general manger and head of the retail business unit in the Americas for Wipro Technologies. He was responsible for their P&L, overseeing client relationship and delivery of complex web-based technology initiatives in North America, Mexico, Canada and Brazil. Joydeep and his team of client partners repositioned Wipro’s Retail practice to a leadership position, driving increased revenue, profitability and customer satisfaction during his tenure.
Prior to joining Wipro in 2012, Joydeep served as principal and senior engagement manager at Infosys, where he helped incubate and build the company’s next generation commerce practice into a market-leading digital commerce professional services group.
Senior Vice President, Global Account Management
In his role as Senior Vice President of the Microsoft Business unit for Digital River, Stewart Sagastume is charged with driving flawless execution, innovation, and partnering with Microsoft to deliver a world class experience to Microsoft end consumers everywhere on the planet. Stewart brings 25+ years of experience in Service Operations and Strategy consulting, and significant large-scale, complex IT program management execution experience to manage high-performing cross-functional teams to support Digital River’s largest client.
Stewart has been with Digital River since 2007, and prior to joining Digital River, Stewart has been a leader driving strategy, emerging technologies, and client relationships at FICO, Zamba Solutions, and Racotek.
Senior Vice President, Product Management.
Scott Scazafavo is Digital River’s senior vice president of product management. In this role, Scott leads product strategy, research, definition, roadmaps and delivery cadence for the company’s commerce and payments solutions on a global basis. Today, thousands of B2B and B2C merchants rely on Digital River’s multi-tenant, SaaS-based commerce and payments solutions to grow their online businesses as well as connect with buyers across multiple devices, channels and nearly every country in the world.
Scott joins Digital River with more than 16 years of experience of product development experience, leveraging current and emerging mobile and web technologies to develop compelling consumer products, digital publishing platforms and enterprise business solutions. He is experienced in leading product development, program management, design, editorial and content management teams in delivering award-winning digital consumer and business products.
Prior to joining Digital River, Scott lead the program management, design and experimentation teams for MSN at Microsoft, and was responsible for creating and driving the organization’s product roadmap.
Before Microsoft, Scott served as the vice president of product management at Allrecipes.com, where he drove both mobile and site product development.
Earlier in his career, he was director of product management at Classmates.com, and e-business manager for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina where he ran their external web properties.
Senior Vice President, Global Sales
As senior vice president of global sales for digital commerce, David Woolenberg draws on his knowledge about international commerce sales strategies and the operations of companies selling software and other digital products to strengthen Digital River’s leadership position in the commerce industry. With David’s guidance, Digital River has been able to accelerate its entry to new vertical markets, including the publishing industry, as well as deepen its relationships with its key customers by helping them build and grow profitable domestic and international commerce businesses.
Since joining Digital River in 2003, David’s responsibilities have encompassed account management and sales for the company’s digital enterprise customers, including some of the world’s most recognized technology organizations. David has helped Digital River win and grow some of its largest customer accounts, and headed the company’s sales efforts with Microsoft from 2006-2012. All told, he has more than 15 years of strategic sales experience, including a successful track record selling to software and publishing companies for Metatec, Inc., which was acquired by Digital River in 2003.
Senior Vice President, Development and Engineering
Ian Holsman is the senior vice president of development and engineering at Digital River, leading a global team of ecommerce experts that is tasked with driving innovative architecture and technology creation, delivery and support for the company’s clients. Today, the company’s cloud-based ecommerce solutions operate on a massively distributed architecture, which is regularly upgraded and maintained to support thousands of online businesses.
Ian joined Digital River in 2014, with more than 25 years of experience in software product development engineering, and web and ecommerce technologies. In addition to leveraging technical, data and people assets into game-changing platforms that deliver business value, Ian has published several patents.
Prior to joining Digital River, Ian was chief technology officer and vice president of engineering at Relegence/AOL, and has held various leadership positions at Microsoft and CNET.
Vice President, Enterprise Operations
Kathy Tompt is Digital River’s vice president of enterprise operations. With more than thirty years of experience in leading operational functions across financial, direct marketing and ecommerce industries, Kathy brings a wealth of knowledge in service excellence, cost efficiency and process improvement. As Digital River’s operations leader, she manages strategy and operations for facilities in over 24 global locations, fulfillment operations in the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pac, as well as procurement for over $150M in annual third party spend. Kathy also leads the transformation of corporate business operations, improving overall efficiency and achievement of operational excellence.
Prior to joining Digital River in 2008, Kathy worked at Bluestem Brands as vice president of operations, managing all onshore and offshore sales and service operations, back office operations and compliance programs. Prior to Bluestem Brands, Kathy held executive leadership roles with Metris Companies, CPP North America and U.S. Bank, where she managed and developed several operational, service and sales areas in support of B2B and B2C customers.
General Counsel and Chief Human Resources Officer
KT Schmidt is Digital River’s general counsel and chief human resources officer. He directs all activities related to building the international workforce that drives Digital River’s success. This includes developing talent management and organizational enablement strategies that support the company’s growth initiatives, as well as attracting and retaining some of the top experts in the ecommerce industry.
KT brings to Digital River more than 15 years of operational and organizational experience, working with Legal, Human Resources and IT teams, and managing global Human Resources and corporate operating practices. This includes compensation and compliance programs, mergers and acquisitions, and technology contract negotiations.
Prior to joining Digital River, KT served as general counsel and vice president of human resources and information security at International Decision Systems, a global market leader and B2B software provider in the financial services space. There, he had responsibility for building the Legal, Human Resources and IT departments to drive efficiency; in addition to managing complex domestic and international business challenges.
KT holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Northwestern University, a Juris Doctor from Washington University, and a Master of Arts in human resources and organizational development from Adler Graduate School. He also has been admitted to the Minnesota and Wisconsin State Bars.
Vice President, Global Marketing & Communications
Jason Nyhus started at Digital River in 2000 holding virtually every role in sales and marketing. He has owned relationships with some of the company’s most dynamic and fast past clients like MLB.com, Canon, Microsoft and EA. He was also responsible for driving our marketing innovation through our ecosystem expansion and strategy development of our MarketForce practice leaders. He is currently responsible for our global demand generation, product marketing, communications, strategy, analyst relations, and branding across our Commerce, Payments and marketing business units as Vice President of Global Marketing and Communications.
Vice President, Commerce Operations
Laura Mays serves as the vice president of commerce operations for Digital River. In this role, Laura leads the company’s global customer service, and fraud prevention, client and fulfillment operations as well as the Digital River University training program. The organizations under Laura’s charge partner closely with Digital River’s global client base to optimize the use of the company’s ecommerce platform and solutions as well as support the day-to-day operations of their ecommerce businesses. These organizations are relentlessly focused on driving client satisfaction.
Previously, Laura was a senior leader in Digital River’s professional services organization responsible for developing ecommerce solutions and building implementations for some of Digital River’s largest accounts, including Microsoft and Adobe. Prior to Digital River, Laura was a manager at Accenture, focusing on systems implementations for property and casualty insurance companies. All told, Laura has more than 15 years of experience consulting, building and running SaaS businesses.
