New Games Research Reveals Gaming Trends and Preferences in Eastern Europe

By: David Woolenberg

We’re in Germany for one of the largest games conferences in the world – Gamescom. Come by and visit Digital River at the Cologne International Expocentre. Our booth space is located in Hall 4.2, Aisle A, No 020.

Leading up to the event, we commissioned a research report that was conducted by SuperData Research, a leading provider of market intelligence on free-to-play and digital games, to explore digital gaming opportunities in Eastern Europe. The new research revealed insights into gamer payment preferences across Eastern Europe, as well as player demographic and engagement factors across the MMO, social, mobile, digital PC, and digital console games markets.

The research findings are based on SuperData’s syndicated data from a user base of 3.3 million Eastern European online gamers as well as a customized survey of approximately 1,100 respondents conducted earlier this year. Findings of the study addressed the following countries – Belarus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine – and revealed:

    • Russia, Turkey and Poland dominate 84 percent of the Eastern European digital games market, accounting for $1.9 billion of the estimated $2.2 billion in digital games revenue.

    • Eastern European digital games revenues grow by 7% year-over-year.

  • Payment preferences demand a custom strategy in Eastern European countries.

You can view all of the data here from the 2014 Eastern Europe Digital Games Market research report.
